The achievements of Zionism are clearly evident. Yet the certainty of these achievements has been obscured by a heavy shadow deriving from the colossal mistake our founding fathers made in choosing the parliamentary coalition system to run the affairs of the state. This unfortunate choice placed the power in the hands of the minority. Moreover, in addition to the radical error of choosing a multi-party coalition system, the decision to run the state’s affairs by political parties was and still is a terrible mistake for which we are paying compound interest. Listing the accumulated failures of party democracy would be superfluous for the facts show it has failed miserably and that this failure is all-encompassing. Indeed, the safety net every normal country should provide its citizens is lacking, for the quality of public sector services is light years away from what it should be. To say that the entire system is rotten would not be an exaggeration. Yet despite the many critics, accusers, protesters and soothsayers, no solutions have yet emerged.

This appeal to raise money through a crowd funding campaign derives from a profound sense of distress and dismay originating in the conduct and policies of the Israeli leadership; from concern about the present state of affairs in Israel; and from the belief that it is within the power of the proposals introduced here to influence the outcome of the upcoming elections and have a decisive positive impact on the future.

As noted, a lack of effective oversight and legislative failures have led Israeli democracy into anarchy. Political parties provide corrupt individuals with a perfect platform for their misdeeds, with those who elected them the main victims of those gray areas that we as a society have left up to the interpretation of the decision-makers, thus causing ourselves considerable harm. For the most part we also tend to choose parties according to their leaders, leaving us with no say about the other members of the party, who work against our interests as citizens. Indeed, we hitch our wagon to horses pulling in different directions. The current multi-party system is leading to bedlam, both as a consequence of radicalization and as the natural result of this defective system of democracy. The alternative is personal democracy in which the executive branch is committed to an agenda that defines the leader’s responsibilities, status and role.

Elections in a democracy without parties are conducted in two stages. In the first stage anyone who is eligible to vote can declare himself or herself as a candidate. For the sake of argument, let’s say two thousand candidates declare their candidacy. In the first round of voting these two thousand candidates choose the two hundred candidates who will run in the national elections.  Each voter draws up an ordered list of preferred candidates. According to the laws of personal democracy, candidates are prohibited from contacting or making deals with other candidates, accepting donations, taking loans or using their own private capital to finance their candidacy. The only source of resources for financing the elections is the public coffers, and any deviation by candidates from these fundamental norms will result in their disqualification. In the second and decisive round of elections, every eligible voter draws up an ordered list of twenty preferred candidates from among the two hundred chosen in the first round.  During the ballot count, each candidate ranked number one on a list receives 20 points and each candidate ranked number 20 receives one point. This system guarantees that the identity of the leader of the government will be clear as soon as the results of the elections are known, thus eliminating the issue of coalition and opposition.
My goal is to raise one million shekels for the purpose of preparing proposed legislation which will entail setting limitations and dividing authority and responsibilities, as required to formulate and promote an alternative form of government. I am aware that withdrawal from corrupt party democracy is as complex as recovering from a severe chronic illness. Yet it is possible, and certainly desirable. We welcome this withdrawal process, for outlawing political parties will inevitably lead us to the Promised Land.
