My name is Rabbi Jonathan Bubis and I’m excited to announce that after years writing original Jewish music, I’ve embarked on my first professional recording project — Uvtuvo.
I want to tell you about me and this very special project. It’s been wonderful sharing these melodies with various communities and hearing their responses. Supporting this project will allow the music to reach even more ears and inspire more connection to our tradition!
My Journey to This Music
I am passionate about creating moments of connection through song and prayer.
I still remember the first time I was profoundly moved in a t’fillah setting. As a teenager on a trip to Poland, after a week of visiting concentration camps, we gathered to pray. The shaliach tzibbur led with melodies that felt both new and deeply familiar. With hearts overflowing, we sang at the top of our lungs, held onto one another, danced, and affirmed—powerfully—that the Jewish people are alive and enduring.
Our Hasidic tradition teaches that music is a key to the soul. That experience helped me understand just how powerful it can be to express emotion through music and prayer. From that point on, I sought out and helped create spaces where others could sing, connect, and open their hearts. Later, as a rabbi, I began composing my own melodies to accompany the timeless words of our siddur.
The Vision Behind the Album
Shiru lashem shir chadash—sing a new song to the Holy One. When we encounter our sacred words through new melodies, they come alive in fresh and meaningful ways.
This album is a collection of original tunes for traditional liturgy. It’s intentionally composed for use in synagogues, Jewish day schools, summer camps and anywhere that communities gather to pray and sing together in Hebrew.
The music draws from a range of influences: Hasidic, gospel, Mizrahi, and classic pop/rock to create a sound that is both rooted and expansive.
You can help me bring this music into the world!
It has been a privilege to share my melodies with communities around the country and see people’s response to them. To bring this music to a wider audience, I am inviting others to partner with me in making this vision a reality.
My goal is to raise $15,000 to cover the costs of musicians, sound engineering, videography, and production.
I hope you will consider supporting me at any level, and spreading the word!
Thank you!
