Our community in Mitzpe Nevo (Maale Adumim) is growing B”H, with Olim and Sabras, including many young families…but our aging facilities can’t accommodate them or keep them safe.

The new, modern building and community center that is currently being planned will provide facilities that are accessible to all, allow us to worship, celebrate and educate, while ensuring that everyone stays safe.

Membership has doubled in the last five years with a steady wave of young Olim and young families from North America, as well as from around Israel. We have a vibrant and rapidly growing community, and our 35-year-old shul wasn’t built to accommodate the community that we have become, either spiritually or physically.

With our expanded children’s and family activities, and the need for improved accessibility, both for people with disabilities and for young mothers with young children (who currently have to climb upstairs to a balcony from which they can’t even see the proceedings), the present building will finally be replaced by a new one which properly serves and reflects our community.

With your help, we can fulfill our goal of building a new shul, strengthening our community, expanding our family programming and protecting them in case of emergencies.

New Beit Knesset Mitzpe Nevo Synagogue

The New “Up Shul,” with an inclusive, single-level, energy-efficient design, a large kitchen and safety shelter, and room for young family programs.

The Challenge We’re Facing

We know that for a Jewish community in Israel to thrive, they need a synagogue that accommodates and welcomes them, lifts them up, and helps to care for and educate their children.

The current facilities present many challenges to our members and guests:

  • The main sanctuary isn’t large enough to accommodate our members and their children, especially during High Holy Days and celebrations.
  • There’s a serious lack of space for our expanding youth programming
    • The number of young children in our community has grown ten-fold!
    • In three years, the number of young children (2-6) participating in “Tefilat Yeladim” has grown from 20 to over 40 with the numbers growing constantly.
  • Our women’s section balcony is behind the times and needs of our community
    • The Rabbi, Baal Koreh and Baal Tefilla can’t even be seen
    • It’s unnecessarily difficult for mothers with young children to access
    • It isn’t wheelchair-accessible.
    • There isn’t enough seating for those who are able to climb the stairs!
  • We don’t have a shelter (miklat) built for emergencies and falls far short of the standards required by the emergency services in a new building.

Why We Need Your Help TODAY

For all of the above reasons, we have embarked on a plan to bring our community facilities into the 21st century.

We’re not waiting around, but we need your help to complete the project!

What Your Donations Will Do

Every dollar raised will go toward the renovation of the synagogue. With your help, we will build:

  • A new community hall for youth programming, kidushim and celebrations.
  • A more inclusive, up to date, single-level design that allows everyone to fully participate in prayer services, including mothers with strollers, the elderly and those with disabilities.
  • A large kitchen which will double as a safety shelter (miklat)
  • A modern, welcoming, energy-efficient space that inspires joy and the spirit of congregation.

Your generous donations will ensure our community’s spiritual and physical growth for generations to come.

Beit Knesset Mitzpe Nevo (affectionately known as "Up Shul") was established in 1985 by the original residents of the Mizpe Nevo neighborhood of Maale Adumim, we are led by Rabbi Benzion Greenberger, a recognized jurist and, after making Aliyah from New York, a resident of our neighborhood for over 30 years. As a shul, we have a national religious outlook, and believe strongly in mutual assistance and acceptance, alongside our belief of the State of Israel as a fulfillment of Zionist dreams of 2,000 years. Our shul community includes people of all ages (from 0-80), professions and backgrounds, and has a strong core of young couples – both Olim and Tsabarim – alongside our veteran members. Our shul also boasts dozens of babies and toddlers. We welcome new people, ideas and initiatives, and invite you to join us.
