The Jewish Innovation
Thanks to many wonderful generous people that project was successfully completed. The game room was used last summer for the first time and it quickly became a desired special activity for both campers & staff. The current room includes Ping Pong tables, Foosball, Air Hockey, and a Pool Table.
This year I’d like to add something that I believe will last many years….and provide endless fun: STEP IT UP.
Step It Up is an adaptation of the rhythm and dance games that are all the rage in arcades and in Six Flags. It’s the kind of game that has you enviously watching from the sidelines as a little kid stomps on a 4 panel dance pad in perfect sync to what can only be described as ‘a million arrows scrolling simultaneously on the screen’. His expert moves taunt you, proving once and for all that sweet white Jewish boys have absolutely no sense of rhythm.
But all that has changed since Step It Up entered the Jewish gaming scene and got the Joshes and the Yoilys of the world dancing feverishly to popular hits from Eighth Day, Lipa Schmeltzer, Benny Friedman, and Yeshiva Boys Choir. And now that they offer commercial metal dance pads similar to the kind displayed in the arcades, you know that one day in the not-so-distant future you will be schooling that little kid on proper foot placement (and how to keep your yarmulka on while playing).
The Step It Up song list is updated annually so that it is always fresh, current, and able to withstand the test of 3 back-to-back rainy day activities.
The Impact
Camp L’man Achai is a Jewish overnight camp that combines an enriched Jewish atmosphere with the best recreation programs. Our camp’s breathtaking panoramic view of the Pepacton Reservoir Valley and the surrounding mountains offer an opportune oasis for children to experience the warmth and beauty of their heritage in a safe, friendly, and warm environment.
What Will You Do with the Money?
the company and the total for the project is listed below in quotes:
“Your totals:
$300 for the modified license for gym/school/camps
$50 for 50 extra songs
$2100 for 2 platforms
= $2450”
Two platforms are a necessity since the game is almost always played with 2 players.
This does not include a desktop computer that runs the software, LCD screen, and speakers.
The money will go directly to fund the Step It Up system. If more than the required amount is raised the surplus will go towards the aesthetics of the game room, such as black lights and the LCD screen, desktop, and speakers which I have not included in the above quote.
