Over the past few years, I have been writing new melodies for Jewish prayers. I have had the blessing of sharing these melodies at synagogues in Long Island and Westchester, among friends on Shabbat at my apartment, and at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, where I am currently a 2nd year rabbinical student. Seeing the response to these new melodies has inspired me to make a live recording to share these with the wider world. It is my hope that these melodies will offer all people a new way to experience prayer, and help to revive the spirit in these ancient texts.
The album will be recorded live at the historic SAJ Synagogue in Manhattan, and I have invited 18 of my favorite musicians to play with me. Each track will feature a different lead vocalist, many of whom have appeared on Broadway, and there will also be a 20+ person choir singing throughout. I’m hoping to capture the feeling of community through recording with such a large ensemble of musicians and singers. I also hope to highlight the way that people of all backgrounds and faith can come together through this music. It will all be captured on video, and shared on multiple music and video platforms to amplify this message.
The funds raise here will go towards supporting the many wonderful artists that are collaborating with me on this recording: musicians, singers, audio engineers, videographers etc. Your support will help to create this artistic collective, and share what we make with the wider world. I am grateful for whatever support you are able to offer.
