For Giving Tuesday, it is our goal to raise $2,500 to bring the works of Seymour Rosenthal to San Diego and beyond. Seymour Rosenthal (1921 – 2007) is an important figure in Yiddish culture, creating art refracting life through tumultuous times in American history including the Great Depression. His art showcased the harshness and political conflicts of his times, but also the beauty of everyday life. Throughout his life, the impact of his work has been recognized by many prominent individuals including the late actor Kirk Douglas and several occupants of the White House.
In parallel with Yiddishland’s mission to spread Yiddish culture, we want to raise awareness of the story and legacy of Seymour Rosenthal’s life and art. The funds raised would go towards promoting Seymour Rosenthal’s artwork that will be available to everyone, both in-person and remotely. We invite you to explore his works here and learn more about Seymour Rosenthal’s life in the video attached to this campaign.
