The Jewish Innovation

Music speaks to our innermost selves, and has the power to comfort us. While we may be nurtured by those in our community, there are moments when we are alone, and in need of healing. Listening to music at those times can be a balm. I have set many traditional and modern Jewish texts to music, with the aim of creating an oasis of calm in a turbulent world.

Since many of us carry our music around with us, why not have a source of healing close at hand? The songs on Rest and Joy will be available to soothe and center you whenever you need it most, at home or on the road.

There is a great need for healing in this world. Let’s help make the world a calmer, more joyful place – one song at a time.

The Impact

There is no other album quite like what I propose to make. The words for these songs draw on our rich poetic and liturgical heritage, yet are set in a way that is easily accessible to listeners of all ages. Written for voice and classical guitar, the music is engaging, soothing and timeless. It can be adapted to suit many purposes: whether you are looking for a way to help a child fall asleep, to soothe a troubled soul, or to find a moment of calm, these melodies may help you do so – all while being grounded in modern and ancient Jewish texts, written in both Hebrew and English.

What Will You Do with the Money?

I am very excited to be working with talented producer Raymond Gonzalez on this project, which is also my debut album! I will be recording all of the songs for this project at Blue Fish Sound Productions in Gloucester, Massachusetts, in early 2016. The funds I raise will cover the costs of recording, mixing, instrumental arrangements, production, mastering, graphics, duplication, and media promotion for this album.

Lisa Doob
MA, USA

Lisa Doob has been writing songs since age 8. She became a cantor at HUC-JIR in 2001, and currently serves Temple Isaiah in Lexington, MA. Lisa’s reflective music provides an easy entry point to Jewish life and living. Her songs for kids combine a love of Judaism with childlike enthusiasm. Some of Lisa’s music can be found in The Complete Jewish Songbook for Children, Vol. II; Tzedek Tirdof: The Social Action Songbook (Transcontinental Music); and R’fuah Sh’leimah: Songs of Jewish Healing (Synagogue 3000). Lisa is a contributing author to the 2014 book, Music, Carrier of Intention in 49 Jewish Prayers. She belongs to the Boston cohort of Kesher Shir, a Jewish songwriting collective.
