The Jewish Innovation

ImmerseNYC, the only community mikveh project in New York City, introduces New York Jews to the myriad ways that mikveh can add meaning to their Jewish lives, both through educational programming and ritual immersions.

In the near future, we hope to build a community mikveh: a sacred space where the diverse New York Jewish community can immerse for conversion and niddah (women’s monthly immersion), and for alternative rituals, like healing and life transitions.

Our work is imbued with three core values —

Ahavat Yisrael: Devotion to and Respect for all Jews
Actively building community across denominations and affiliations

Petichut: Openness
Creating an explicitly welcoming, safe, and accessible space for all who wish to enter

Hadesh yameinu k’kedem: Making New the Past
Re-imagining, reclaiming and renewing an ancient Jewish ritual

ImmerseNYC is fiscally sponsored by Jewish Jumpstart

The Impact

We envision a deeply interconnected, ritually innovative New York Jewish community where there is a vibrant, open conversation about and engagement in the mikveh’s immersion ritual for our community’s “four children:”

those who immerse regularly,
those who are skeptical of immersion and might say “mikveh?!?”
those who have not immersed,
and those who do not yet know about mikveh immersion.

We believe mikveh immersions can heal and transform individuals, who can then heal and transform communities, which contributes to the healing and transformation of our society.
