Why we need your help now

“One of the populations most affected by the Corona crisis is the discharged soldiers, who are not entitled to unemployment benefits.” – Defense Minister Bnai Ganz, Jerusalem Post, November 25th, 2020

For as low as $100 a month, you can now sponsor a veteran Lone Soldier with a home through Bayit Brigade.

Now more than ever Lone Soldiers need your help, especially new veterans recently released from the army, who are ineligible for unemployment. As a result of COVID-19, many veteran Lone Soldiers have lost their jobs or are unable to find work. During this extremely difficult time, veterans are struggling to pay rent and monthly housing expenses.

Over the past few months Bayit Brigade has stepped in to provide emergency financial aid and rent subsidies to veteran Lone Soldiers impacted by COVID-19. We need your help to continue this support through 2021. Together we can provide new veterans with the security of having a place to live during these unstable times, and help them create a life in Israel.

“There’s been a record demand for financial assistance by lone soldiers and soldiers from low-income families, due to the economic fallout caused by the pandemic. Many have requested to extend their mandatory service, even by just a few more months, because of the lack of jobs available, due to the economic fallout of the coronavirus. Many others have gone to charities for food and housing assistance.” – Jerusalem Post, November 25th, 2020

Where the money will go

Increased Rent Subsidy for New Veterans
For the veteran soldiers that live in our five Bayit Brigade apartments, we will offer reduced rent in 2021 until soldiers can become financially independent.

Veteran Housing Scholarship
Starting in January, 2021 we will be launching a housing scholarship exclusively for veterans. The program will provide monthly financial aid to veteran Lone Soldiers that apply for assistance. The money raised in this campaign will be used to fund the program, and will go to applicants that were hit hardest by the pandemic.

Collectively, these programs are designed to give veteran Lone Soldiers the opportunity to create a life in Israel. With high unemployment rates, and minimal government support, many new veterans are giving up on their dreams of starting a life in Israel. Our goal is to help them stay.

The more money we raise, the more soldiers we can help.

About Bayit Brigade

Bayit Brigade is a US-based nonprofit that provides affordable housing to IDF Lone Soldiers and new veterans in Israel. We are the only organization focused on housing for active Lone Soldiers AND new veterans. We believe that with a home they love, Lone Soldiers and veterans will have the foundation they need to create a life in Israel.

We currently support 15 soldiers that live in Bayit Brigade subsidized apartments in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The apartments are in central locations, come fully furnished, and have washer/dryers to make life easy for soldiers when they return home.

Bayit Brigade also created Room Finder, an innovative tool to help Lone Soldiers find a place to live. The open source tracker is a simple way for soldiers to view open rooms and independently connect with roommates, all in one place. It is available exclusively to pre-draft, active, and post-army Lone Soldiers.

Growth plans for 2021 include expanding the apartment network and growing the scholarship program to reach more soldiers in need. We also aim to strengthen our partnership with GroWings, an organization committed to providing support, mentorship, and community to Lone Soldiers throughout all stages of army service.

Bayit Brigade is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Contributions are tax deductible. Tax ID (EIN) 83-4215005. www.bayitbrigade.org
