Hi, I’m Ita, single mother of 5 awesome kids, Chai, 20, Avery, 18, Miri, 15, Chemmy 10, and Matan, 8.
Chai was born with a rare chromosomal abnormality, 18q-. Chai is dying to meet others.like him! Every year there is a conference for families of individuals with chromosome 18 affected syndromes. For several years when Chai was young we were able to go. These conferences provide education and support for every member of the family, with various concurrent programs that run throughout. This year, the timing works out well with the kids’ school and camp schedules and it feels like the opportunity is too great to pass up. I would go to the parent programming, and Chemmy and Matan, Chai’s youngest brothers , would go to the sibling programs. This is a fantastic chance for them to see other special needs families. And of course, Chai will get to be a part of the self-advocates! These guys live with me full time and are supported fully by me, so I do not have the extra to spend on this kind of trip. My parents have generously bought our plane tickets, but we need help with the fees, hotel and food. If you can, please help this happen for us! The information, education and belonging we receive at these conferences is felt for a long time after. THANK YOU!
