I decided to launch this project to meet the demand for a sustainable Jewish spiritual community in the Silverlake/Los Feliz/Echo Park area of Los Angeles – and possibly beyond! I am interested in experimenting with Judaism and text in a way that is significant and relevant to people today. The space will be an incubator for different approaches and ideas – including yours. I have worked to build community around LA for the last 8 years. You can read more about my work as a ritual leader here.

What is Pop Up Shul? Dedicated to exploring self, community, divinity and collective behavior through music and text, Pop Up Shul is a concentrated series of Shabbat services that center around a key word and core liturgy each week. With the participation of various guest contributors and musicians, the experience will be fun, casual, and meaningful. There will be 7 sessions for spiritual exploration- like a workshop!

Pop Up Shul is geared toward a diverse audience: anyone who is interested in learning more about Judaism, in connecting to others within a Jewish context, and in experiencing a joyous and intellectually rewarding spiritual event. There will also be childcare and children’s activities during the service portion led by Leah Faye Paul with Sweet Potato Music and more!

Nov 3 start date – need half the funds to cover musicians, space rental, printing, challah, childcare, set up, documentation, insurance, administration and more.
Nov 21st – Thanksgiving check-in. Gratitude to those who have given and calculating budget accuracy.
Dec 15 end date – Expenses are covered so we can consider doing it again! Over target goes toward next project.
*Note: Our goal is to cover half of our expenses with donations and half with tickets. Please contribute with a tax deductible donation on the bar to Dthe right.

You can purchase tickets to the actual gatherings here
