I’m 14 and I live in Australia. A friend of our family went to Uganda last year and met a lovely family and got me in touch with a 12 year old girl there called Osher and we’ve been writing to each other since then. We write to each other all the time. Osher has been telling me that she can’t always go to school and misses out on going to many things around her. I asked her why. Little by little she slowly told me that she’s in a lot of pain. She’s so sad about it. It’s terrible. She has to go to hospital for an operation but they have no money there. But I’m so sad for her, it’s so different in Uganda than it is here. I hope she’ll be ok and I hope that we’ll meet one day. We want to help her get better. But we need your help. Please join us in helping her get the medical care that she needs by donating to our fund for her. My mum will explain the rest.

It’s breaking my heart that a young girl, the same age as one of my daughters is living life in such pain and in such a different way from my daughter. Osher has a vaginal polyp. If I was able I’d simply give the family the money to do this, but unfortunately I’m in no position to be able to do this. This is the only way I can help so please help us help her.

She needs an operation to remedy this. There is no public health system in Uganda, medical procedures are expensive and her family doesn’t have the money to pay for the surgery.

I asked Osher’s mother to get Osher’s surgeon to write a letter to verify the facts and I’ve attached that letter. My daughter and I ended up offering to help raise the funds for the surgery.

The community the family lives in is subsistence farmers and they’re very poor. They don’t even have basic facilities that we’re used to, such as a kitchen to cook in and many don’t even have electricity. They cook on a fire outside, they don’t have running water at home and wash their dishes and laundry in plastic tubs outside. It’s virtually impossible for them to find enough money for such a large expense as hospital fees.

I have attached the letter from Osher’s doctor at the hospital giving details on her condition and the costs needed for her hospital stay and surgery. This is written in Ugandan Shillings but equates to close to 1400 AUD (920 USD) (3162 NIS)

At present Osher is in great pain from the polyp and it restricts her ability to attend school and all activities, so sad for such a young girl. Please help her, it’s terrible that such a young girl is going through so much ongoing pain.
