For thousands of years Jewish men were considered the ideal. Michelangelo chose David, a Jewish warrior King to represent the essence of greatness. Strong, aggressive, passionate. From Moses to the Maccabees, to Bugsy Siegel and Meyer Lansky, Sandy Koufax and Mark Spitz. Jewish men were looked at as heroes. Then something happened. We were portrayed a certain way in the media. The media revolution hit, the golden age of film. Scorcese gives us DeNiro in Taxi Driver. Coppola gives us Pacino in The Godfather. Woody Allen gives us Woody Allen in “Bananas” and a new type of Jew in the media was set.
“Maccabee” is a comedic documentary about the Jewish man’s representation through history, and in the media of today. The rise of the modern Maccabee. We will be interviewing Jewish men of all shapes, sizes and professions who are contributing to the good of society as a whole.
What are we raising money for?
We are raising money so that we can produce a beautiful film that represents the Jewish man in all his diversity. In this time of extreme anti-semitism we want to show the world that Jewish men are present and prepared to face all challenges. We are passionate about making a film for the world that shows regardless of politics, place, or level of practice, Jewish men are a force of nature in the world today.
Why is the money needed?
We are raising funds because even in the best and smallest of scenarios films are expensive. We own all our equipment and work at minimum wage rates but it still costs and can be too much for an independent artist. We are a small dedicated team who works efficiently and out of passion, but that’s not enough. Every penny counts on projects like this and the more pennies the more we can do.
How will the funds be used?
The money raised will go towards the production of the film. We will be shooting in multiple cities including Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Israel and other locations. Additionally; we will have usual production costs including legal, talent, music, post-production, etc. We also want to make sure we can market the film properly in order to get our message out in as many ways and markets as possible.
Who is running the campaign?
“Maccabee” is the fifth film from Writer / Director Loren Feldman. His last project was “Silenced” featuring Alan Dershowitz and many others, The film was critically acclaimed and available on iTunes and Amazon. Art Direction is being done by Larry Rosenthal. Our Music Supervisor is Paul Boutin. We will be adding people as we go as well. Loren has always completed a film project regardless of budget and “Maccabee” has already started filming in the Los Angeles area.
