The Jewish Innovation
Kesher is the Hebrew word for “connection” and it’s what happens when we come together as a community.
Our Kabbalat Shabbat gatherings have enriched our lives (and hopefully the lives of those who have joined us) so much that we want to take our offering to the next level. For Rosh Hashanah 2016, Kesher would like to gather our community as we welcome 5777 in our typical spiritual, musical and open-hearted style!
We are everyone-friendly and look forward to creating the space for multi-faith and multi-cultural expressions of prayer which are joyful, relevant and meaningful.
This lay-led service is a welcoming place to reflect, connect, farewell 5776 and prepare ourselves for the Days of Awe and the year that lies ahead.
The Impact
Kesher Pittsburgh is good for the Jewish people because it provides a space for prayer which is embodied, connective, reflective and Jewniversalist (based in Judaism but broad in its interpretation). By creating a warm and welcoming space, Kesher seeks to engage Pittsburgh Jews (as well as non-Jewish partners/friends, allies and spiritual seekers) who want to be Jewish on their own terms through prayer gatherings which are peer-led, musical and open-hearted.
We believe that there is no better way to start the Jewish New Year (and in fact, every day!) than with prayer that is authentic, resonant and meaningful.
What Will You Do with the Money?
-Round-trip airfare to bring Tim and Keshira haLev Fife to Pittsburgh (from California)
-Space rental for our gathering
-Torah rental (if needed)
-Design and printing of machzorim (prayer booklets)
-Other materials and supplies (apples and honey, challah, wine, etc)Stretch goal: If we surpass our financial goal, we’ll be able to enhance/provide Rosh Hashanah lunch (and also donate 3% of the cost of food to a non-profit organisation which ensures that others less fortunate can also enjoy a festive meal).
Any money that isn’t spent on our Rosh Hashanah gathering will be invested into future Kesher events (Kabbalat Shabbat, etc).
