The Jewish Innovation
It is up to us to liberate the Western Wall- legally and socially- for the future generations of women. Women of the Wall has struggled to pray together, as a group of multi-denominational Jewish women, with Torah, tallitot and tefillin on the women’s side of the Kotel for nearly 25 years. From 2010-2013 police arrested and detained over 50 Jewish women at the Western Wall for praying according to their beliefs. In April 2013 Women of the Wall won the legal recognition to pray at the Kotel and have since been threatened by violent attacks and protests.
The Impact
Our struggle is dedicated to all of our grandmothers, mothers, sisters and daughters, who have or would have wished to have prayed at the Kotel. Women of the Wall dreams and prays for the day when a girl will be able to have her full bat mitzvah at the Kotel, surrounded by the women in her life. We work towards the day when we can pray together as a beautiful chorus of women, without the threat of being harassed, assaulted or attacked.. The long term impact of our work will be a more pluralist, tolerant and empowering Kotel space for women.
What Will You Do with the Money?
The money raised for this campaign will go to support the vast reach of Women of the Wall all over the world, while also safeguarding our security while we pray at the Kotel. Today we are in need of resources to support our international education and solidarity programs, as well as our efforts to change the Israel perception of pluralism and women’s prayer.
Needs include:
