The exhibition “Table of Contents / Table of Contacts” is assembled by the Jewish Artists Initiative (JAI) of Southern California, a group consisting of members working in diverse media such as visual arts, performance, film, theater and research. We are invited to present this exhibition at the Jerusalem Biennale 2019, but due to the high costs of exhibiting and shipping internationally , we need to raise financal support here, via Jewcer.
Through a multi-channel video installation and a presentation of unique artist books, representing multiple generations of Jewish experiences and points of view, over two dozen artists and art professionals answered questions about their childhood memories, activism, connection to Israel and heritage, while sharing personal stories about how their lives, identities, and social awareness impact their art practice. As the participants present their unique reflections, a dialogue among themselves, and with the viewers at the gallery in Jerusalem, begins to emerge.
An additional exhibition for our SoCal audience will be on view at USC Hillel art gallery venue, August-October 2019. More details to follow!
Both exhibitions are curated by Sagi Refael, an Israeli-American art historian living in Los Angeles. The exhibitions wish to bring familiarity with both American and Israeli points of view, alongside an appreciation for and understanding of the ways in which American Jews and Israelis see common interests in very different ways.
We need YOUR help to make these exhibitions come to life!
The money raised via Jewcer will support the costs of producing the exhibitions, shooting and editing the video installation, sound engineering, subtitles for the videos, binding the artist books, and all the added costs of shipping the artworks from Los Angeles to Jerusalem and back.
