The Jewish Innovation
Hummus Wars is a documentary about national pride through food and by breaking a world record. Each country has the intention of winning and remaining steadfast about their superiority, ownership and historical connections to hummus. The goal of the documentary is to shoot the battle from the perspective of each country – Israel and Lebanon while capturing the events and points of view from within these countries which have been neck to neck to win since 2007. Ultimately, this is the story of people, community and two little countries attempting to reach a form of self-determination through their status with hummus.

The Impact
Food rivalry is a new way of looking at Israel’s position in the Middle East and is an effective and neutral way to broach the vulnerability of Israel next to Lebanon and vice-versa. An event like Hummus record breaking, in the context of the larger world, also shows the lengths Israel and Lebanon are going through to win, giving voice to the Middle East conflict in a different manner than the typical depiction in the media, while being entertaining.
What Will You Do with the Money?
Funding would go towards research, paying for licensing rights to footage and music, equipment rentals/purchase, travel costs in the Middle East, hiring crew to shoot, edit, and complete a trailer and marketing plan for the film, as well as beginning our assembly cut of the feature documentary.
