The Jewish Innovation

You can’t celebrate in Israel this year? We will bring Israel to you!
On May 4th, 2014, we will transport you to a familiar place, where you will hear the rhythms of Hebrew songs, taste hummus and shwarma, see the newest of Israeli avant-garde art, experience kibbutz life with your little kids, and engage in sports for all ages.

The Impact

The Stephen S. Wise Temple Yom Haatzmaut Festival is a one-of-a-kind of celebration in Los Angeles that connects American Jews and their friends with Israel. We strive to make the celebration of Israel’s Independence an accessible and exciting part of our community’s consciousness, highlighting with pride the achievements of Israel’s flourishing culture and the success of its people. We hope to extend the celebratory experience from Israel to LA, in the family-friendly and intimate setting of our Stephen S. Wise campus.

What Will You Do with the Money?

It is vitally important for American Jews to connect to Israel outside of the ‘classroom’ setting. Our Yom Haatzmaut Festival has been an incredibly effective entry point for further engagement. What is unique about our festival is that the entire event is free of charge and is open to the greater community, thus making it accessible and enticing to the multi-cultural Los Angeles community. By inviting our neighbors and friends, we are able to build bridges, breaking down barriers, while at the same time strengthening our connection to Israel.

The money we are raising for the production of the Yom Haatzmaut festival will allow us to continue to offer a wide range of multi-sensory activities designed to connect Americans to Israel, free of charge. The good news is that participation in the festival has doubled in the last two years of its existence, from 500 people to 1,000 people, including visitors from the greater LA interfaith community. We anticipate a continued a doubling of our participants again this year. What an amazing opportunity to show LA the vibrancy of Israel! You could be part of making this event a fantastic community celebration by joining our crowd funding campaign. Our goal is to pool together $10,000 to make this event an awesome experience and accessible to all.
