Hi Everyone!
I want to tell you about an incredible social initiative called Battae.
Battae is the Ethiopian Israeli Heritage Center, which serves as a place for people to explore and appreciate the story of Ethiopian Jews in Israel. We opened the center only three weeks ago, and so far, we had over 600 visitors from all over the world, who have learned about the history and culture of Ethiopian Jews, tasted our delicious food, listened to our music and even learned Ethiopian dance!
We created this space based the idea of building the community and promoting unity. We truly believe that by connecting people, giving them a historical background, having one on one experiences with them, we are able to change our society and mend social divisions. It is harder to hate when you know someone, and it’s harder to hold prejudiced views when you understand where they are coming from.
The solution is connection.
This project is self-funded by my partner and I, we have taken loans, and invested our own money in order to make this amazing thing happen, we are very proud of the product we created, but there is one thing that still missing.
The portrait room, the purpose of this roon is to honor the different leaders who made the existence of the Ethiopian community in Israel possible. We want to tell their stories, and ensure their heritage will not be forgotten. My dream is to place a tablet with IPads & headphones under every portrait, which presents interactive videos about the life of the leaders. Additionally, we need to install a big screen where we can present historical videos, and of course we need a videographer and editor in order to help us create the educational content.
In order to accomplish all of that we need to raise $2000 USD.
We already gone beyond our initial budget, and we’re not able to finance this last project, but I believe that creating this room in the right way will enable us to get to the next level of education and reaching new audiences.
