The Jewish Innovation

“Dude Where’s my Chutzpah?” is a comedic web series which follows Jessie on her adventure to discover what it means to be Jewish. From the underground Israeli club scene, to the front of the picket line, to the depths of the Kabbalah, Jessie soon discovers the plethora of ways to experience Judaism. In addition to her hilarious adventures, she also taps into the spiritual realm and learns how her soul can flourish within the tangible world. Watch as Judaism shows Jessie that the journey is the destination, and that every answer is just a question in disguise…

We are currently in pre-production and gearing up to shoot this summer in both Los Angeles and Israel! We’ve been honored with a Six Points Fellowship and are currently fundraising in order to make the most awesomely epic web series of all time. Please contribute what you can and watch your Karma points go through the roof. Every Shekel counts!

The Impact

“Dude, Where’s my Chutzpah” explores the different ways one can “be” Jewish in Los Angeles. The inspiration began as I realized, like many Secular young Jews, I found myself struggling to find how to express myself while tapping into a religion that I always felt so completely alienated from. Unfortunately, a huge thread I’m seeing with the young Jewish community is the disconnect between Jewish theory and practice. You are born Jewish but what does that mean? How can you use your religious identity in your everyday existence? How can Judaism enrich your everyday life? The question doesn’t begin with HOW to be Jewish but WHY even be Jewish in the first place? Does Judaism even want us?

In today’s Jewish practice, there are often strict parameters in what it means to be Jewish. i.e.: “being Jewish means going to this place at this time and reciting this prayer not eating this” Therefore we are taught to believe being Jewish is about what you CAN’T do. The purpose of this project is TO SHOW how self-empowering it can be to define your own spiritual identity. How Religion can be a springboard in helping you understand society, the environment, and most importantly the voice within.
“Dude, where’s my Chutzpah?” will use a multi platform approach in order to engage the young thriving Jewish Los Angeles Community. The interactive website will serve as a virtual home base; displaying resources, engaging content, and most importantly encouraging fans to actively contribute their own ideas and experiences. The site will also feature a Chutzpah Podcast which includes Jessie’s interviews with some of L.A.’s most innovative Jewish figures! This is just the beginning people, with your help the “Chutzpah” movement will spread faster than head lice at summer camp!

“Dude, Where’s my Chutzpah?” is an exploration in identity, and community, and spirituality; all balls that I juggle on a daily basis. My goal with this project is to create work that can both entertain and inspire an audience to search for their own “real” reality; that part of themselves that may not necessarily get nourished on a daily basis. My dream is for the series to serve as a Zeitgeist for Jewish Identity in L.A. and beyond and inspire everyone to find their own Chutzpah!

What Will You Do with the Money?

The series will consist of 8 ten minute episodes and this money will go towards production including; crew, cast, transportation, production insurance, equipment, location fees, migrane medicine, coffee, travel expenses to the Israel unit. As well as Post-Production Fees which include; editing, sound design, color correction, and visual effects. I will give away my first born to get my movies made(just kidding Mom) and every dime you can contribute will be used to turn this insane dream into a reality. It takes a village to raise a movie – this project simply won’t happen without YOU!

Jessie Kahnweiler began her steamy love affair with moviemaking at the University of Redlands where she immediately began ditching class in order to make documentaries. For her thesis film, Little America, she hitchhiked across the country to explore the world of America’s truck drivers. After college, Jessie packed up her emotional baggage and headed to the City of Angels, churning out a slew of short films including It’s Magic which depicts a young woman who interviews to become a magician’s assistant. Her latest film ,Stupid Questions, stars Zelda Williams as Lucy, a feisty young casting assistant who holds a phony casting call in an effort to find her dream guy. The film has screened at
