Thank you for taking a moment to visit my crowdfunding page and joining me on my journey of releasing my debut album, Day and Night: Gentle Hebrew Music for Yoga, Meditation and Prayer.
My name is Shira Taylor Gura. I am the author of the award-winning book, Getting unSTUCK and host of the Getting unSTUCK podcast.
As a child, prayer was not something I enjoyed or felt a great connection to. Even though I was taught that prayer should be satisfying, that was never my experience. Creating a personal closeness to G-d was something unfamiliar to me. Even now as an adult living in Israel and speaking the modern Hebrew language, I still sometimes feel that the concepts and structure of the traditional prayerbook miss my spiritual “mark”.
The Torah teaches that you shall serve God “with all your heart” (Deuteronomy 11:13) and in the “Amidah” prayer (traditionally recited three times a day), we are taught to thank God and sing God’s praises for our lives, our souls, and the wonders and blessings we receive at all times: evening, morning, and noon.
Yet, how is this possible when you feel distanced from traditional prayer?
“Day and Night” is an album (available as a CD and digital download) providing a unique and powerful opportunity for any Jewish person hungering for spirituality and looking for more prayer, more connection, and more meaning in his or her life.
Inspired from the East and produced in Israel, “Day and Night” is presented in a warm, gentle and inviting style. Depending on your mood or the time of day, you can choose to listen to the Morning, Noon, or Evening track and immediately feel the words touch your heart and enter your soul.
Each track is comprised of three Hebrew mantras: Modeh/Modah Ani (for Gratitude), Halleluyah (for Praise), and Ahna (for Request) providing a meaningful approach to converse with G-d as well as a satisfying and enriching sense of completeness in voicing your personal prayer. These chants are simple, making the music accessible even to those people who are less familiar with the Hebrew language.
This album will touch Jewish people, young and old, who are looking to connect spiritually – mind, body, and soul. Women who wish to bring a new baby into the world in a sacred way. Parents who want to put their child to sleep or start their child’s day in a meaningful manner. Teachers who need to settle a rowdy classroom. Business people who want to de-stress on their morning commute. Anyone wishing to visit the sick, or any person, young or old, who simply wants to bring more prayer or meditation into his or her life. The opportunities for this CD to touch those who are searching for a daily, authentic spiritual experience are endless.
Recording an album is a long and expensive project requiring music composition and arrangements, studio musicians, vocalists, rehearsal time, studio hours, editing and mixing, graphics, mastering, and producing the CD!
In order to record a high quality album, I am looking to partner up with each and every one of you. I invite you to support this project. Every level of support includes the digital download (mp3) which you can then access at anytime, anywhere, and at any moment.
This CD will only be made possible with the support of donors.
Please take a look at the many levels of support and consider which way you may be able to collaborate with me and support anyone on a Jewish spiritual journey.
Thank you so much for your support!
With gratitude,
Shira
