According to the nonprofit Beyond Type 1, “Approximately 130,000 people with type 1 diabetes and over 2.3 million with type 2 diabetes in Ukraine now face inconsistent access to insulin, supplies, medical professionals, and diabetes care. Many of the estimated 15 to 20,000 children with type 1 and their families are fleeing westward to the borders in hopes of escaping into other countries as refugees.”

To help with this crisis, Litani, a 10-year-old boy with type 1 diabetes, has organized a fundraiser. He is looking to raise $5,000 to go towards those with diabetes in Ukraine. All proceeds will go directly to the International Diabetes Federation of Europe, which is coordinating the delivery and distribution of medical supplies to the Ukrainians with diabetic needs.

Hello! My name is Elisabeth. My son is a Type 1 Diabetic. When were fist started this project, it was hard to explain to my son about the war in Ukraine. All he saw was me looking at a picture of a children's hospital blown up. He asked so many questions. After we discussed about what happened. He said, "We need to do something." That is how all this got started. Now, I want you to meet my son. Hello! My name is Litani. I am 10 years old and I am a type 1 diabetic. When I saw the hospital destroyed, I was very sad. These were kids like me. I asked where the medicine was for kids with diabetes. When my mom said they have to find it some other way, I wanted to help. My mom says that diabetes is a hard disease and that I need medicine to fight another day. I want to help the people in Ukraine with diabetes fight another day.
