After being a Cannabis consumer for over a decade, having to navigate a path in life blighted by prohibition, argued by some for the protection of man, in this day and age the information has been brought to light that this is not the Truth but in fact quite the opposite. Cannabis may be the most beneficial plant in the world. It is a plant that’s first existence has been recorded at 27.8 million years ago through discovered fossilised evidence. First recorded use by man to date stems from possible medical usage in China dating back 6000 years ago. Since then there have been situations where Cannabis has emerged and become useful as a source of food, textiles, construction, medicine, spirituality and recreation.
Looking back at the last 90 or so years as the beginning of Prohibition of the Plant its easy to ask why, perhaps leading to painful truths about Humanity but not without learning Enlightening Lessons. This wasn’t after going through what many Cannabis users experience in regards to unnecessary stress of current and past indoctrination. What was different for myself compared to others one could ask? Only recently I discovered a realisation of why I am dependent on Cannabis and how it has lead me to become a better person. Many Cannabis consumers will know what the date or time 4.20 represents. This year was not your average 4.20 for some. If you are Jewish, Israeli, a Zionist, and also a Cannabis consumer you will know this year there was the strange correspondence of April 20th 2020 also falling on Yom HaShoah of the Hebrew calendar. What adds even more confusion to the real is that date also seems to be Adolph Hitlers birthday. Never mind too much about Hitler, it seems he came to the end he deserved only perhaps too late. However around the 1930’s in the U.S there arose a man with a similar damage in the way how it can be argued his actions caused harm to the whole of humanity, but perhaps like the Plant he looked to demonise, was not directly correlated to any deaths, remained to the end of his life with little disturbance. Harry Anslinger was the man who would bring the vote to Prohibit Cannabis worldwide to the United Nations in 1961. This was after his failure to Prohibit Alcohol in the U.S which seems to stem from his Christian belief that it was immoral. His reason for moving to Cannabis after his first failure can be argued was to promote the business interests of friends, William Randolph Hearst, whose industries were effected by cannabis products such as paper milling. Being friendly with Hearst lead to an easy access source to distribute propaganda and is the reason we can Cannabis with THC Delta 9 Marijuana- Marry Jane in Spanish as it was used in a campaign to demonise migration of Hispanics to the States in the times of depression and mistruths began. Part of Anslinger’s propaganda campaign involved a commission where an expert witness gave evidence that after two tokes he turned into a bat. Its not like this wasn’t without a Battle lost by the real experts of the time The American Medical Association who sent a representative to Congress in 1937, the year of enactment of the Marijuana Tax Act and testified saying: ” Don’t ban this substance because substantial medical uses and developments will be neglected and also theres things that we are already using this for that we don’t have substitutes for.”
In Israel the reasons for Cannabis Prohibition came earlier than the most of the world through the British Mandate who enacted two Laws. The first enacted in 1919 by Ronald Storrs who was know to the Jewish populous as Pontius Pilate, banned hashish and the second enacted by the High commissioner of Jerusalem Arthur Wauchope in 1925.
