During our army service we both served as officers in the Civil Administration, where we worked on a wide range of issues regarding Israeli-Palestinian cooperation. We reached the conclusion that in order to achieve peace, we must improve grassroots relations between the two societies. Our first initiative to promote this vision is BetterJobz.
Building on knowledge we acquired during our military service, we launched BetterJobz with the goal of improving grassroots relations between Israelis and Palestinians by streamlining and improving the process for Palestinians to find employment in Israel. Today, the process is complicated and frequently facilitated by middlemen who charge Palestinians, on average, 20% of their monthly salary in order to receive a work permit. This makes potential employers and potential employees wary of the process. But using the knowledge and connections we gained from our military service, we know that we will be able to improve the current situation. As a non-governmental organization with no interest besides helping people, there is no reason for Palestinians or Israelis to be wary of working with us. The initiative centers around a website, which will provide 3 main services:
- Job listings in Israel (for potential Palestinian employees)
- Employee recruitment (for Israeli employers)
- Financial and legal advising services (for Israelis and Palestinians)
We have already launched a landing page for the website, where Palestinians can leave contact information so that they can be updated upon launch of the website. In order to launch, publicize and maintain the website, we need $25,000.
