The Spiritual Connection
The International Young Israel Movement (IYIM) is raising funds to help finish building the synagogue on the Telem Base in Hevron Region. We have already succeeded in raising over $35,000 and need your help with the remaining funds! This Border Police base needs an active synagogue (operated by military Rabbis) to provide for spiritual needs of the soldiers. Observant soldiers pray three times daily and attend nightly classes for others, it’s a place of spiritual upliftment which is what gives them strength before embarking on dangerous missions.
These highly motivated border police units are prepared to risk all they have to safeguard the citizens of Israel. Now we need to step up and do everything we can to help them fulfill their spiritual needs by creating a space where they are able to pray and meditate.
The Impact
The Israeli Border Police – MAGAV, founded in 1949 main task is securing Israel’s border. A task which has become significantly challenging over the past couple of months. They have also been deployed in assisting the Israel Defense Forces, and for counter-terrorism and law enforcement operations in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
The Border Police are also responsible for the security of rural settlements inside Israel. Recently, they made headlines as being the ones responsible for foiling an attempt assassination attack on Prime Minister Netanyahu and Jerusalem Mayor, Nir Barkat
These soldiers of the Telem base have one mission to ensure safety and security for neighboring communities and safeguard major roads so travel can be safe and accessible to all. These defenders are also the first responders for any terror-related incidents that occur on the highways or in the surrounding communities.
The Telem base is home to highly trained front-line soldiers coming from all over Israel with a common goal of protecting their country. They represent a cross-section of all population groups. No distinction is made between religious and secular, Jews or Arabs or Druze and men or women.
The Synagogue need
All IDF and Border Police bases in Israel have synagogues. This is a place where soldiers regardless of their background can find solace, calm and strength amidst the chaos and dangerous times. The base needs an active synagogue (operated by military Rabbis) in order to satisfy the spiritual needs and uplifts the spirits of the soldiers.
What Will You Do with the Money?
IYIM has a been able to secure funding for most of the construction but we still need help to finish the project.
Now is the time to act. While we have raised a significant portion, we still need capital to finish the project. Construction on the synagogue is starting soon, can you take us further towards raising the overall funds needed to complete the synagogue?
Your donation will go directly towards the completion of the synagogue on the Telem base expected to be finished by September just in time for the Rosh Hashana (Jewish New Year)prayers. This will ensure that all soldiers have a physical space in which their spiritual needs can be provided.
Specifically, funds contributed through this campaign will go towards completing the furnishings, a library for off-duty soldiers to relax and learn, tefillin sets, talesim, siddurim and much more.
BONUS:
“Funds received beyond our goal will be directed to the purchase of recreational equipment for the soldiers on the base: Pool table, Ping pong table, lightweights gym equipment etc.”
IYIM’s contributions/ involvement
IYIM is a proud partner with the Telem base and has successfully secured two refurbished Torahs in the base synagogue through previous campaigns.
