Your support will give hope to dozens of families in Kiryat Arba-Hebron!
Yes, living in Kiryat Arba-Hebron has its daily challenges. Security threats take a toll on all the children, but for children with special needs they can be especially overwhelming. Our young children are not immune to the news, or stories of terrorist acts that sometimes claim the lives of people that they know in their communities.
Kiryat Arba-Hebron is a community of incredible people who have made aliyah from all over the world. This warm community has received people from all over the world: United States, Russia, France, Spain, Ethiopia and even India, with open arms and loving hearts. Now they need your help to continue making it a flourishing place for all people living there and growing the young and strong new generation.
Your support will help children with special needs in Kiryat Arba-Hebron receive the additional professional treatment needed to deal with emotional trauma and post trauma stress disorder.
Our Story
Nearly 38 years ago, Chaviva and Moshe Tzahor adopted a baby girl after reading an ad in the newspaper about a blind baby who needed a home. She was later found to have brain damage in addition to her blindness, and as an adult continues to need total care. Caring for her daughter exposed Chaviva to the world of special therapeutic treatments and she made a decision to start a project of her own for people with special needs in Kiryat Arba. After opening a special club and running a summer camp for children with special needs, together with her husband she decided to establish a youth village for adolescents with special needs. With the outbreak of the first Intifada, this idea was abandoned.
However, in 1989, they used the funds that were raised for the establishment of a therapeutic center for child development for the children of Kiryat Arba and the surrounding area. The Neve Avraham Child Development Center was born.
What We Do
At the time of establishment, the types of treatments offered at Neve Avraham were considered new and innovative. We continue to provide a wide range of top therapies focused on helping children lead full, productive, and fulfilling lives. Many of the families who join us have made aliyah and thus have their share of language, socio-economic and cultural challenges as well. With programs such as “Parent’s Fitness Club” and “Language Enrichment for Olim Children” we aid parents and families in their transition and assimilation into our country. In addition to the special needs treatment programs, Neve Avraham is compelled to react to the growing need in the community for emotional trauma care. By supporting Neve Avraham, you’re not only ensuring that each child receives the treatment he or she needs, but that their families are assisted as well.
Neve Avraham needs to provide emotional trauma care to our children with special needs and to reach out to the entire population in the region. Currently, our center treats 80 children each week, but demand for our services is growing, and so is our waiting list.
That’s why we need your help now. Children and their parents aren’t equipped to deal with these issues on their own. They need our help, and that means we need yours. Please support our efforts today!
Who We Help: Noa’s Story
At two-and-a-half, Noa couldn’t speak. She was clearly intelligent, but she had a severe language delay. Her parents brought her to Neve Avraham for treatment, and through intense therapy, she began to acquire language.
When Noa began pre-Kindergarten, Neve Avraham specialists identified motor skill difficulties, and began providing her with occupational therapy while continuing her speech sessions. She had trouble with her fine motor skills like using scissors and holding pencils. She spent three years in intensive therapy that included daily homework facilitated by her parents.
And it all paid off when Noa prepared to enter First grade. She could already write her letters and numbers neatly, and her teachers considered her advanced – for a regular class!
