The AZ House, an addictions treatment facility located in Jerusalem, Israel, has run into some fundraising obstacles and is struggling to put food on the table for their residents. We have taken it upon ourselves, to create this campaign with the goal of raising $1000 a month for the next 3 months to cover food costs.
The AZ House is not like any facility you have ever seen in Israel, as someone who has worked with many programs, I can say that with absolute certainty.
The AZ House is unique for a few reasons: Firstly, we are free – most of our residents are unable to pay anything towards their treatment. Those who can, contribute of their own accord, we never pressure them into donating. We rely heavily on outside donations (food, furniture, money, etc…) to keep our doors open and to do the work that we do.
Secondly, after a couple of months, once a resident has progressed to a certain point in their emotional work, they enter the second stage of the program where they are supported by staff to find work. They then work while living in the facility, attending evening groups and benefitting from ongoing support. Also, while in the house, they are supported to do all the cooking/ cleaning and other chores as well as their ’emotional’ treatment – this teaches them responsibilities and skills for once they leave and live independently.
While we have only been open for 9 months, we have so far been incredibly successful!
Currently we have 10 residents in the house who are doing amazingly well… If you are able to/ willing to donate to helping them continue on their courageous path, please do so generously.
